While planned outages are essential for ensuring the reliability and safety of utility infrastructure, they can have a significant impact on both customers and providers.
Our client sought to carry out maintenance work on a critical circuit scheduled for de-energization during a planned power outage. To minimize the circuit's downtime, our client needed to accomplish the most work within a single planned outage.
The Work Bundling team identified when the previous planned power outages were scheduled to occur and imported all maintenance work within the clearance limits by using EKN’s database tool. Following a feasibility review of the work bundle, our team coordinated with the involved electric maintenance work groups to execute jobs concurrently during a single outage.
During a single outage, 34 maintenance jobs were successfully completed, effectively mitigating the need for 12 additional planned outages. Bundling efforts avoided $88k in costs and saved 1.4 SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index) minutes.
